Stunning aerial photos prove everything looks better from a drone

These stunning aerial pictures show just how beautiful the world looks from a drone.

Their unique perspective gives you the chance to spy on polar bears and look down on beautiful landscapes in a whole new way.

The photos are the winners of an annual aerial photography competition and the results are breathtaking.

More than 44,000 photos from people in 141 countries were submitted to SkyPixel, a leading online platform for aerial photography, across the categories of landscape, portrait and story.

The grand prize was awarded to Florian Ledoux, a photographer from France, who captured a polar bear jumping across ice floes in Nunavut, Canada.

‘I have witnessed incredible moments and scenes of the wild but I can guarantee you that this, by far, is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen,’ Mr Ledoux said.

‘I hope that future generations will still be able to witness the beauty and grandeur of the Arctic wildlife the same way we do today.’

While water was a popular theme among photographers, some took to the skies to show the beauty of both the urban and natural landscape.

Petra Leary’s photograph of Auckland’s basketball courts won first prize in the professional portrait category.

The symmetrical composition and pops of colour draws the viewer’s eyes across the court.
